Promote sustainability and shared ownership of the ELT program

(By Prabina Pyakurel, English Teacher)

To promote sustainability and shared ownership of the ELT program, regular project schools appointed a focal teacher. At Shree Saraswoti Basic School, Ms. Prabina Pyakurel, the English language teacher, took on this role. After a year of implementation, she shares her reflections

Being part of the ELT program has been a truly rewarding journey for me as an English teacher. The sessions have significantly enhanced my skills in classroom management, student engagement, and multi-grade teaching. More importantly, my students have shown remarkable improvement—their speaking and listening skills have advanced, and they’ve become more confident through interactive activities and a student-centered approach.

What I appreciated most about the program were the fun and engaging lessons that encourage better communication among my students. The emphasis on student participation not only improved collaboration within our mixed-grade classrooms but also helped build learners’ confidence in expressing themselves.

While the program has been impactful, there are still areas where it could be strengthened. I believe incorporating more tailored lessons to suit varying learning levels would better address the needs of all students. Additional hands-on activities and improved integration of technology could also enrich the learning experience. Furthermore, closer tracking of student progress and targeted support for struggling learners would go a long way in making the program more inclusive and effective.

Looking ahead, I would love to see the program embrace more interactive and technology-driven methods of instruction. Practical, real-life English practice, along with gamification elements and the use of audio-visual aids, would make learning even more engaging. A stronger feedback system for both students and teachers could further enhance the program’s impact. Although the program already offers a well-structured and interactive approach, tackling the challenges of multi-grade teaching more directly would make it even more effective.

Overall, the ELT program has transformed my teaching style, making it more dynamic, student-friendly, and impactful. I am excited to carry forward the strategies and insights I’ve gained to achieve even greater success in the future.
